Ma da dove viene questa misteriosa parola?
Per scoprirlo, dobbiamo fare un salto indietro nel tempo, fino all'antica Roma.
I nostri antenati, grandi osservatori del cielo, notarono una stella particolare. Brillava intensamente nella costellazione del Cane Maggiore. La chiamarono Sirio, ma anche "canicula", che significa "cagnolino" in latino.
Questi antichi astronomi fecero una scoperta sorprendente. Quando Sirio appariva nel cielo all'alba, iniziava il periodo più caldo dell'anno. Era come se questa stella portasse con sé l'afa e il caldo intenso dell'estate mediterranea.
Col passare dei secoli, la parola canicola ha continuato il suo viaggio attraverso la lingua e la cultura italiana. Oggi, non indica più solo un fenomeno astronomico, ma descrive quei giorni roventi di luglio e agosto.

But where does this mysterious word come from?
To find out, we need to leap back in time, to ancient Rome. Our ancestors, great observers of the sky, noticed a particular star.
It shone intensely in the constellation of Canis Major (the Great Dog). They called it Sirius, but also canicula, which means "little dog" in Latin.
These ancient astronomers made a surprising discovery. When Sirius appeared in the sky at dawn, the hottest period of the year began.
It was as if this star brought the sultriness and intense heat of the Mediterranean summer. Over the centuries, the word canicola has continued its journey through Italian language and culture. Today, it no longer indicates just an astronomical phenomenon, but describes those scorching days of July and August.
