🔎 L’ORIGINE DELLA PAROLA
🇮🇹 Tradire viene dal latino tradĕre, che significa letteralmente "consegnare".
Questo verbo latino è composto da trans (oltre) e dare (dare).
Nella tradizione cristiana, il termine si riferisce specificamente all'atto di Giuda che "consegnò" Gesù alle guardie. Con il tempo, questo senso di "consegnare qualcuno ai nemici" si è evoluto nel significato attuale di "venire meno alla fiducia".
È interessante notare che in latino, traditor (da cui deriva "traditore") era il termine usato nei Vangeli per riferirsi a Giuda.

🇮🇹 Il "tradimento" nella Divina Commedia di Dante
Nella Divina Commedia, Dante Alighieri riserva ai traditori il posto peggiore dell'Inferno: il nono cerchio, quello più profondo e più vicino a Lucifero. Questo cerchio è diviso in quattro zone, ciascuna dedicata a un tipo specifico di tradimento: Caina (per chi tradisce i parenti), Antenora (per chi tradisce la patria), Tolomea (per chi tradisce gli ospiti) e Giudecca (per chi tradisce i benefattori).
I traditori sono immersi in una lago di ghiaccio, una punizione che simboleggia la freddezza dei loro cuori quando hanno compiuto l'atto di tradimento. Più grave è il tradimento, più profondamente sono conficcati nel ghiaccio.
I peggiori traditori - Giuda, Bruto e Cassio - sono al centro della terra e vengono masticati eternamente dalle tre bocche di Lucifero.
Per Dante, il tradimento era considerato il peggiore dei peccati perché non solo rompe la legge divina ma distrugge anche il tessuto sociale basato sulla fiducia reciproca.
Nel linguaggio comune italiano, l'espressione "essere un Giuda" è ancora oggi usata per indicare un traditore.

In the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri reserves the worst place in Hell for traitors: the ninth circle, the deepest and closest to Lucifer. This circle is divided into four zones, each dedicated to a specific type of betrayal: Caina (for those who betray relatives), Antenora (for those who betray their homeland), Ptolomea (for those who betray guests), and Judecca (for those who betray benefactors).
The traitors are immersed in a lake of ice, a punishment that symbolizes the coldness of their hearts when they committed the act of betrayal. The more serious the betrayal, the deeper they are embedded in the ice.
The worst traitors—Judas, Brutus, and Cassius—are at the earth's center and are eternally chewed by Lucifer's three mouths.
For Dante, betrayal was considered the worst of sins because it not only breaks divine law but also destroys the social fabric based on mutual trust.
In common Italian language, the expression "to be a Judas" is still used today to indicate a traitor.
